I hate to sound prideful, but I was right. This week was GREAT!!!!!! It was great because of so many things, but I will just say a few.
This week we went to Turlington, the free speech square on campus, and handed out cookies with Book of Mormon pass-along cards stapled to them along with some quippy phrases. It went wonderfully! We passed out 75 cookies! People didn't even think twice about taking them. Here were the phrases:
"Shove this cookie in your face. Read this book, it's full of grace."
"Eat this cookie while at school. Read this book, it will make you cool."
"Eat this cookie. We love you! Read this book, because it's true."
People were really excited about it.
This week I also had my first ever skype lesson. We taught a man named Vald who lives in Russia yesterday. He is 1,000 miles from the nearest church building. He is really interesting and has lots of good questions. He speaks english very well, but he still has an awesome accent. It was definitely quite the experience.
We also went on tradeoffs this week. I was with Sister Baxter in our area. We had a really good time. We
This week was referral madness. We had referrals out the wazzoooooo. We got 41 referrals. ummmmm. I think my last weekly high was 3. This one broke the bank. We came up with this genius idea where we sit members down and go through their facebook friends and we add all the ones they tell us to. Such a good idea.
This week we also had wonderful miracles with some less active sisters. We got to meet with a lot of them and talk to them. There are such sweet people in this branch! They are so delightful. Heavenly Father puts us place to do certain things, and I have such a strong testimony of that!
It has continued to rain like crazy here and I have continued to prepare for the natural disaster that Sister Conley is praying for. I read the book that the mission office gives us to help us prepare for such a feat, but all it did was make me worry. I realized that we have no way to get out of our second story apartment. I know that the ground in Florida is mostly sand, but sand can only c so much of the fall. So I put my puzzler to the test and I feel like I have come up with a logical solution. I will tie our 4,000 hand towels together and we can shimmy out the window. I knew we had all of them for a reason! Don't fret. We will be safe.
Also. Miracle of miracles. We have the car 100% of the time…for now. Elders and Sisters can no longer share cars. Prayers really are answered. Sweet, blessed day.
This week I was reading in Exodus in the part where Moses and the children of Israel are trying to leave Egypt.
Pharaoh finally gives in and tells Moses that they can leave, but they have to leave their cattle in Egypt. Moses tells them that he can't do that. He says,
"Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not an hoof be left behind; for thereof must we take to serve the Lord our God; and we know not with what we must serve the Lord, until we come thither." (Exodus 10:26)
We never know what the Lord is going to ask from us, but we have to be ready. We can't even hold back a HOOF. When the Lord calls we have to be able to answer. Are you ready? I know that I'm working at it. We have to take it all and lay it all on the table. When we hold back we are holding back blessings from ourself. Don't limit God. Let Him work His ways and enjoy the paths you take with Him. I know that I am. I LOVE being a missionary. These last 9 months have been the best of my life. I look forward to the next 9 months and seeing what the Lord has in store for me. I know there will be so many miracles and so many blessings.
See you in 9 months. :) Have a good week!
love,
Sister Perkes
