I reported to the MTC on Wednesday, October 2, 2013
Hello all!
Today is my third day in the MTC and it feels like I've been here for about 1,000. Time moves so slowly... unless it's lunch and then it goes by really quickly. Things at the MTC are usually hectic, but with General Conference coming up things are extra wonky. It has throw everything off. We would usually be teaching an investigator on Saturday, which is tomorrow, but because of conference we won't be teaching her until Monday. My district is really nifty. We have nine people. Now one may be wondering how there are nine people when we are supposed to go teach the people two by two... well someone is in a trio. THAT SOMEONE IS ME. I have two companions! They are two lovely Sisters and I love them already. One is named Sister Blatter and she is from Richland, Washington. She is actually a girl's cousin from Idaho Falls (Hailey Blatter. I don't think I spelled her first name right... oh well). All of her dresses have pockets and that makes her that much better. My other companion is Sister Hurst. She is from South Jordan and went to Bingham. What a happy soul! She's like travelling sunshine!
So I hope everyone is sitting down... but who reads their email standing up..? Anyways. I hope everyone is sitting down and holding onto their hats. BEN PATCH. Yes, I repeat, BEN PATCH came into the MTC the same day as me. Ben Patch is the star men's volleyball player who is on all of the posters, played every game, pretty much led them to the national title, and is the same year as me. He came in the same day and I about died. He stood in line behind me as we checked in. Mostly because his last name is Patch and we had to be in the same lines, but I'll take it.
At dinner I ran into Sister (Lexie) Moncur! She was so happy to see me and she cried just like I expected her to. She said that she had been praying to see me and I made her say something in Polish. I also ran into Elder (Avery) Baron yesterday. We had a good chat and he was surprised to see me. I also ran into Elder (Zak) Kelson from high school. He has grown about 2 feet and is like unto a giant now. He saw me and asked me why I was going on a mission.. a peculiar question seeing as I'm already here and it's a little to late to turn back now. But now I see Elder Kelson at EVERY meal, no fail. It's rather uncomfortable.. I also ran into Elder (Connor) Bodine who is one of my good friends from college. He is still here because he broke his foot and is waiting for it to heal before they will let him leave. He usually talks to me until I make him go sit with his companion, or his companion gives him a death stare. I also saw Elder (Preston) Sontag. Elder (Cameron) Shariatmadari, and Elder (Garrett) Neilson from high school. I didn't talk to them, but just waved.
I'm really enjoying the classes here and the Spirit is so strong. HOLY COW. This is like Spiritual gluttony. I don't know if that's really appropriate, but my soul is morbidly obese from being fed so much and I've only been here two days. WHAT. A. TRIP. The things that they teach us here just make me want to go serve already! I feel just like Rapunzel in Tangled when she sings the song "When Will My Life Being?" I just keep wondering, and wondering, and wondering, when will my life being?? I just want to go out and teach the people already? (Hence forth the title of this email).
Getting up is hard to do, but I'm actually doing much better than I anticipated. My companions are both like me. We are all about that 5 extra minutes of sleep and no exercise. It's pretty dandy. The only really difficult thing here I'm facing is the fact that I can't say any movie quotes, YouTube quotes, or song lyrics. So I basically have to use my big girl words and actually say something I thought up personally. Such a tough life I lead.
But I'm really grateful to be here and my testimony has grown so much! The Gospel is true, my friends! We were called to be Sister Training Leaders last night. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but we are going to be the best STL's ever for the next week!!
Well I've run out of time. DRAT.
love,
Sister Perkes
P.S. I have a zone leader who reminds me of Dylan O'Brien. He's from Canada and says a lot of things really weird...
